Laddie Boy, the Airedale terrier that belonged to President Warren G. Harding, appears here with a companion named Isley Randall at a parade the record calls the Durst annual event, dated May 13, 1921. The dog became a well-known figure in Washington during Harding's first months in office, and pictures of him were widely reproduced. The negative comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio whose glass plates documented city life and public occasions in the early twentieth century. The record notes streaks and blemishes caused by natural deterioration of the original coating, which are visible across the image.
