The title on this glass negative places the scene within Brooklyn's rapid transit system, though the record notes that the wording comes from caption cards and has not been verified. The Bain News Service, the New York agency whose files George Grantham Bain assembled, documented city life in the early twentieth century, when elevated trains and streetcars were central to how Brooklyn residents traveled to work and into Manhattan. The Interborough Rapid Transit subway opened in 1904, and Brooklyn's transit lines soon came into connection with it. With no date recorded, the exact year and location of the view remain open questions.
