The record gives no date for this view, and its title comes from unverified caption data supplied by the Bain News Service, a commercial agency that sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century. The glass negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, which is valued for its record of everyday urban life and public events. Women's marches were a visible part of Russian public life in those years, and the best-known example came in February 1917, when women textile workers in Petrograd demonstrated on International Women's Day, a protest that helped start the revolution. Any link between this picture and that event is only a possibility until the date and location are confirmed.
