This glass negative records a Fourth of July parade, though the record gives no place or date, and the title itself comes from caption cards the Bain News Service wrote, so it has not been independently verified. George Grantham Bain ran a New York photo agency that supplied news pictures to newspapers in the early 1900s, and his large-format glass negatives capture street scenes, public events, and crowds of that era. Parades marking Independence Day were a common civic ritual across American towns then, with marching bands, flags, and onlookers lining the streets. The sharp detail of the 5 by 7 inch negative makes it useful for studying clothing, vehicles, and street life.
