A uniformed Hermann Göring holding a lion cub is the detail that sets this print apart from the other pictures on the board, which show him in more formal settings. The image comes from a personal photo album kept by Göring himself, and its caption card dates it to February 7, 1938, a year when he was among the most powerful figures in Nazi Germany as Reich minister and head of the Luftwaffe. Göring was an avid hunter and kept animals at his country estate, Carinhall, so the picture offers a more informal view of a man better known for public military and political roles. The date and title come from older caption records that were later revised, so they are worth checking against other sources.
