Dated October 15, 1925, this glass negative shows the Imperial Potentate, the top officer of the Shriners' national body, alongside local members of the fraternal order. The Shriners, formally the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, were known for their hospital charities and elaborate ceremonial regalia, and their visits often drew crowds and press attention. The National Photo Company, which made the negative, was a commercial studio that recorded public events and civic life in the early twentieth century. Streaks and blemishes across the glass reflect natural deterioration of the original coatings.
