Towering granite walls line the edge of a shaded forest road, the kind of view that once greeted early Yosemite travelers as they wound their way into the valley by wagon or on horseback. The road cuts through dense conifers, with the rock face rising far above the trees and dwarfing anything below it. Roads like this were some of the first routes that brought visitors into the valley in the late 1800s, when the park was still new and seeing its geology was the main draw. Notice how the scale of the cliff, not the road itself, carries the composition.
