The cover of this sheet music for "The Log Cabin Song," printed about 1840, carries a lithographed scene of a log cabin, a design that signals the political moment it was published in. The 1840 presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison made the log cabin and hard cider into symbols of his image as a plain frontier man, and songs like this one carried that message into parlors. The lithograph was made by B.W. Thayer's firm and copyrighted by the publisher Parker & Ditson. Its cover art shows how commercial printing turned a campaign theme into everyday household entertainment.
