Taken on December 28, 1920, this glass negative records a group of women connected with the inaugural committee for the March 1921 swearing-in of Warren G. Harding. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented officials, public events and daily life in the capital in the early twentieth century, made the exposure, and Herbert A. French gave it to the Library of Congress in 1947. The date falls just months after the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified, when many of these women were newly able to vote. Streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of the original coating may show on the glass.
