A group of Republican National Committee women was photographed on September 9, 1929, and this glass negative preserves that moment from the National Photo Company's Washington studio. Women had gained the vote nationally in 1920, and by 1929 they held committee seats in the party's national structure, so the subject reflects a recent change in American political life. The company, active in Washington from the early 1900s into the 1930s, recorded officials, events and visiting public figures for newspapers and the public. The glass shows streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of its original coating, and the title comes from the company's notes and has not been independently verified.
