This glass negative from 1927 shows Marion Talley, an American soprano who drew wide newspaper attention in the late 1920s after her quick rise to the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The record says the title comes from unverified data supplied by the Bain News Service, so the identification rests on the agency's own notes. Bain was a New York photo agency whose images document theater, music, politics, and celebrity of the early twentieth century, and its glass plates capture the studio and press portraits that circulated to newspapers of the day.
