This color lithograph depicts the moment in Genesis 45 when Joseph, now a powerful official in Egypt, reveals his identity to the brothers who had sold him years earlier. Painted by F. Hartwich and published in Berlin by F. Silber, the print dates from sometime between 1840 and 1890, a period when inexpensive colored lithographs of biblical scenes were often sold to families for home devotion and religious instruction. The scene turns on recognition and reconciliation, coming after a famine brought the brothers to Egypt, and it remains one of the most emotional episodes in the Joseph story.
