The subject here is a console radio, the ACF Model 333, photographed around 1929. Its floor-standing wooden cabinet shows how manufacturers tried to make the receiver look like part of the living room furniture rather than a piece of electrical equipment. By the late 1920s, radio had moved from hobbyist kits into mass-market homes, and console cabinets like this one housed the tubes, tuning controls and loudspeaker in a single piece. The photograph was deposited with the U.S. Copyright Office, which is why a record of this ordinary appliance survives in the Library of Congress collections.
