This 1964 etching and aquatint, titled "In mind, in mind, in mind," is credited to an artist named Mellon, and its surviving details are sparse. It is an artist's proof, signed in pencil, an early impression the printmaker pulled for personal review before the edition was issued, so it shows the plate near its working state. The Library of Congress acquired it through the Pennell Fund, which supports purchases for the Prints and Photographs Division. In the 1960s, many American printmakers returned to intaglio methods, and aquatint, which uses dusted resin to build tonal gradations, was a common way to achieve soft grays alongside etched line.
