*Trio*, by Ernest Lacy, is a 1958 etching and aquatint, and its pencil signature and "2/30" notation mark it as the second impression in an edition of thirty. Printmakers in the 1950s often worked in intaglio, where an etched line holds the ink and aquatint adds tonal washes. Numbered editions like this one were a common way for artists of the period to sell multiple impressions of a single design while keeping each sheet traceable to its plate. The Library of Congress holds the work in its Prints and Photographs Division, where it stands as an example of mid-century American printmaking.
