The only identifying mark on this negative is the set of initials N.E.A., which the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and the record marks that label as unverified. The company was a Washington, D.C., commercial studio whose glass plates record people, institutions and events from the years around the First World War. Dated to 1919 or 1920 from neighboring negatives, the plate came to the Library as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Expect streaks and other blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating.
