The Library of Congress notes that the title "Sims family" comes from unverified data supplied by the Bain News Service on the negative or its caption card. The image is part of the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of glass negatives from a New York news photo agency that supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Small glass negatives like this one were the standard tool of press photography before roll film became common, and many subjects were ordinary people and everyday events rather than celebrities, so the picture is best read as a document of its time.
