This glass negative records a woman named Jane Snyder at a Ku Klux Klan service on August 9, 1925, during the mid-1920s, when the Klan's national membership was at its height. Women joined the movement through its auxiliaries, and the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm, documented many public events of the period. The title comes from information noted on the negative or its sleeve and has not been verified, so the identities and setting deserve some caution. The plate shows streaks and blemishes from deterioration in its original coating, which affects how clearly the scene reads today.
