Its title, "Jeder zeichne" ("Everyone subscribe"), makes the appeal plain. Vienna architect Georg Berger designed this color lithograph in 1917 for the seventh Austro-Hungarian War Loan. The Habsburg government sold a series of these bonds to help pay for the war, and posters like this one presented buying them as a patriotic duty for ordinary citizens. The print is held by the Library of Congress as part of the Rehse collection on contemporary history.
