The name on this glass negative belongs to Sir Eric Geddes, a British railway manager who rose to prominence during the First World War, when he directed military railways in France and later served as First Lord of the Admiralty. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption information the Bain News Service wrote on the negative or its card. The Library of Congress has not verified that identification, so it should be read with that caveat. Bain's agency supplied newspapers with news pictures and portraits of public figures in the 1910s and 1920s, and small glass plates like this one were the working format of that trade.
