Marquette, a port on Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, is the setting for this view of its county courthouse. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of towns and landmarks as prints and postcards, made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative around 1908. Marquette's wealth came largely from iron ore shipped from nearby ranges, and civic buildings like this one reflected that prosperity.
