Few prints on this board take their title from literature so directly. "Ukifune" names the heroine of the final chapters of *The Tale of Genji*, and the sheet places her in a domestic setting. It belongs to the series *Hinagata wakana no hatsumoyō* (*New Designs of Young Models*), in which artists showed the season's patterns through elegant figures at home. Dated between about 1772 and 1780, this vertical color woodcut reflects the nishiki-e style that followed the introduction of full-color printing in the mid-1760s. Its subjects, women's dress and daily life, make it a useful record of fashion in the 1770s.
