Massillon and Canton are neighboring Ohio towns whose football teams met on Thanksgiving Day for years, and in 1906 that rivalry was one of the most closely followed contests in the region. This picture ties the 1906 match to that holiday tradition, when a game between two hometown squads drew crowds, local pride, and newspaper coverage. Football at the time had few rules to limit contact and little protective gear, so games were rough and often became local legend. Look at the picture for how the towns presented themselves through their teams.
