Titled "Where Santa Claus lives," this c1900 photographic print makes the household fireplace its central idea, reflecting how firmly the chimney had become part of American Christmas folklore by the turn of the century. The record lists fireplaces and children among its subjects, and it was registered for copyright under W.H. Partridge, which suggests it was meant for wide circulation. The chimney entrance owes much to Clement Clarke Moore's 1823 poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas," which helped fix the image of Santa coming down the flue on Christmas Eve.
