This engraving is titled for March 4, 1829, the day Andrew Jackson took the oath of office as the seventh president, and it shows him as he was presented to the public at that moment. The inscription says it was engraved from an original drawing by F. Kearny, so it reproduces a drawn likeness rather than a photograph, a common way portraits of officials reached print in the 1800s. The print is also matted with a companion portrait of Rachel Jackson, the president's wife, who died in December 1828, just before his inauguration. The record does not give a publication date, so the print's exact date of issue is unknown.
