This glass negative is identified as a likeness of Charles Lathrop Pack, a lumberman who became a leading advocate for tree planting and forest conservation in the early twentieth century. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio active in the 1910s and 1920s, produced the image, though the name comes from unverified notes on the negative sleeve and the date is inferred from negatives in the same range. Look closely for streaks and blemishes, which result from the natural deterioration of the original coatings on the glass.
