This lithograph urges Belgians to subscribe to a lottery loan, a bond whose holders could win cash prizes in periodic drawings, which made the offer more appealing than an ordinary bond. Printed in 1918, while Germany still occupied much of Belgium, it was sponsored by the Fédération des Coopératives pour Dommages de Guerre, an organization concerned with war damage. Its subject headings tie it to the wartime economy and to the cost of rebuilding after the fighting. The poster shows how Belgians were asked to fund recovery through personal savings as well as through the state.
