Queer Fish" is a 1936 lithograph published in New York by the American Artists Group, and its title, a common phrase for an odd or eccentric character, sets the tone before the viewer reaches the image itself. The print is signed in pencil by the artist, which marks it as an individual impression rather than a reproduction. Printmaking was a popular way for American artists to reach buyers during the Depression, when lithographs and etchings could sell for far less than paintings. The Library of Congress acquired the print through a purchase funded by the Pennell Fund, and it is cataloged in Karen Beall's survey of the library's American prints.
