This drawing cuts through the Library of Congress along its central east-west axis, showing the building's internal layout instead of its exterior. Ink and gouache give it crisp linework and tinted washes, the hand-rendered style of architectural presentation drawings. The Library's main building on Capitol Hill, the Thomas Jefferson Building, was completed in 1897 after years of construction, and sections like this one helped explain how its reading rooms, galleries, and stacks were arranged around the central axis.
