The only identifying detail here is the name "M. Pilzer," which the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its caption card, and the record notes that this title has not been verified. The agency, founded in New York around the turn of the twentieth century, sold press photographs to newspapers, so its glass negatives were often made quickly for daily publication. Because the record does not describe the subject, the picture is best read as an example of that working practice, when glass plates were the standard medium for news photography.
