Mary Cassatt's *The Fitting* shows a woman being fitted for a garment, a quiet domestic moment of the kind she returned to often in her prints. It is the fifth state of a plate from *Her Set of Ten*, a series of color prints she made in 1891 using drypoint, soft-ground etching and aquatint. The impressions were printed by the artist with a Paris printer, M. Leroy. Cassatt had long admired Japanese woodblock prints, and the flat areas of color and close, unposed figures in the set show that influence.
