Not too much noise, please" is the translated title of this 1916 color lithograph, and it sets the poster apart from the many recruiting and war-bond images of its time. Foyers du soldat, or soldiers' homes, were rest centers run by volunteer organizations, where French servicemen could read, relax, and write. The subject headings point to correspondence, and the poster appears to ask the room to stay quiet so men can compose letters home. It is signed by the artist Rouffe and dated to 1916 or 1917 in the catalog record.
