Few wartime posters rely on words alone, and this 1915 Canadian recruiting appeal does exactly that, holding men to a promise they had already made. Its line "You said you would go when you were needed" drew on the pledges many volunteers had given as Canada's war effort grew after the country entered the conflict in August 1914. Canada depended on voluntary enlistment until conscription arrived in 1917, so appeals like this carried real weight. The poster's blunt capitals, with "NOW" set apart at the end, show how recruiters pressed for immediate action.
