This stereograph shows Theodore Roosevelt standing on a decorated rostrum before a large crowd, a setting typical of the public appearances that made him one of the most widely photographed presidents of his era. Underwood & Underwood, the firm credited on the card, sold stereoviews like this by the thousands, and viewers used a stereoscope to see the two slightly offset images as a single three-dimensional scene. The date of about 1905 places it in Roosevelt's first full term, a period when he was campaigning for an elected term of his own and speaking often to crowds across the country. The identification comes from a caption card and has not been independently verified, so the event and location are best treated as unconfirmed.
