The record preserves little about this particular print beyond its title and imprint, which credit Nathaniel Currier of New York and date it to about 1849. It belongs to the many small lithographs Currier issued in the 1840s, when inexpensive, often hand-colored sentimental scenes sold widely to middle-class households. Currier was one of the earliest American printmakers to build a business on lithography, and his output from this decade shows how popular printmaking reached ordinary buyers. The print is listed in the 1983 Currier & Ives catalog raisonné as number 2075.
