Easter morning on the Atlantic City boardwalk is the detail that sets this glass-plate negative apart from the resort views on the same wall, and the record ties it to the Brighton Casino, one of the large seaside pavilions that lined the boardwalk at the turn of the twentieth century. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made tens of thousands of photographs of American towns, scenery and tourist sites between the 1890s and the 1920s, produced this view as a catalog image, likely for sale to visitors and publishers. Its 8 by 10 inch glass plate records the wooden walk and the crowds in holiday dress during a period when Atlantic City was drawing large numbers of city dwellers by railroad.
