Theater managers quickly borrowed headlines, and this lithograph for *Heart of the Klondike*, a melodrama by Scott Marble, puts the Yukon and Klondike River valleys front and center. Gold was discovered on Bonanza Creek in 1896, and by 1897 the rush had become a national obsession, fed by newspaper accounts of fortunes made and of the brutal journey north. Printed by the Strobridge Lithographing Company, a major Cincinnati and New York poster house, the sheet shows how quickly stage productions turned current events into commercial appeal.
