The record gives only a title, "Naval Parade," and a note that it comes from a small glass negative in the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. Bain's Bain News Service was a Manhattan photo agency that sent pictures of current events to newspapers, mostly between about 1900 and 1920, so this view most likely shows a ceremonial procession of sailors or ships in that era. The title and date came from caption cards the agency wrote, which the Library notes are unverified, so the exact event is unknown. The glass plate format itself is worth noticing, since it was the standard for news photographers before roll film became common.
