Signed in pencil on its mount by Clarence H. White, this 1910 platinum print portrays Mrs. Fox, identified in the record as Kate Parsenau, though that name is noted as unverified. White was a leading figure in American pictorialism, which treated photography as an expressive art, and platinum paper suited his soft, subtle tonal work. He later founded a school of photography in New York in 1914, where he taught many students. The Library of Congress bought the print in 1926.
