The title pairs the town of Mauch Chunk with Mount Pisgah, the wooded ridge that rises above it in the Lehigh Valley. Mauch Chunk grew up as a coal-shipping center in the 1800s, and the steep hillsides around it carried the Switchback Railroad, which moved coal from the mines toward the Lehigh Canal. The town was renamed Jim Thorpe in 1954, and the old railroad grade and the mountain setting still draw visitors. The record places the view in Delaware Water Gap, which is a separate area about 60 miles northeast, so this scene likely belongs to a different part of Pennsylvania's coal country.
