Tremont Street is one of the oldest thoroughfares in Boston, laid out in the 1630s and running along the edge of the Boston Common and the King's Chapel burying ground. This c1901 print records the street at the turn of the twentieth century, when horse-drawn traffic was giving way to electric streetcars and the city's downtown was filling with commercial blocks. Its catalog entry is brief, but the view offers a useful look at how the old colonial route had become a busy urban corridor by then.
