Rockwell Kent's wood engraving takes its title from the closing line of the *Communist Manifesto*, which Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published in 1848, and the slogan's blunt call to solidarity drives the image. Kent, a painter and illustrator best known for his northern landscapes, made many politically charged prints during the Depression, when he was an outspoken supporter of labor causes. This impression comes from an edition of 150 and is signed in pencil by the artist. Its record also lists a study drawing made in preparation for the print, which shows how carefully Kent planned his blocks.
