Titled *Ta-Her-Ye-Qua-Hip or Horse-Backs Camp*, this photograph shows a Comanche camp, and the horseback reference in its name points to how central horses were to Plains life. The caption also names No-Co-Nie. The picture is dated around March 1873 and credited to W.S. Soule, a photographer working at Fort Sill in Indian Territory, now Oklahoma. After the 1867 Medicine Lodge treaties, Comanche and neighboring peoples were settled on reservations near the post, and the scene captures that unsettled period. The date and names come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified.
