*Poderosa*, Spanish for "powerful," is an edition print by Ed Paschke, the Chicago painter associated with the Chicago Imagists, whose work leaned into bold color and vivid, theatrical figures. This example, numbered 22 of 60, was issued by Landfall Press, a printmaking workshop that produced many of the artist's lithographs. The subjects listed in the record, masks, gloves, and tattoos, point to the stylized, hard-edged imagery that runs through Paschke's work of the 1990s, where costume and surface decoration become ways of presenting identity. Its date of about 1991 places it in the period when he was working most often in printmaking.
