Queen of love and beauty" is a hand-colored lithograph published in New York by Currier & Ives, a firm that operated from the 1830s until 1907 and became known for inexpensive prints of sentiment, daily life and popular themes. Its courtly title suits the allegorical tone that made such images popular as romantic gifts, which is why the gallery groups it with Valentine's Day. Like most of the firm's prints, it was printed in black and white and then colored by hand, so a single design could appear in many versions. The Library of Congress holds the print, which is listed as entry 5427 in the Gale Research catalog raisonné of Currier & Ives.
