Few titles on this board are as direct as *The star of love*, a hand-colored lithograph issued by N. Currier's New York firm around 1847. Currier began his business in 1835 and built it on inexpensive pictures for a broad public, many colored by hand in workshops, so no two sheets looked exactly alike. Sentimental subjects like this one, where a star is commonly read as a symbol of guidance and devotion, suited the romantic messages that printed images carried in the period. The sheet is listed as no. 6102 in the Gale Research catalog raisonné of Currier & Ives prints.
