This silkscreen names four liberties and calls for them "everywhere in the world," wording that echoes the Four Freedoms Franklin D. Roosevelt set out in his 1941 address to Congress. The catalog date of 1936 comes before that speech, so the phrasing may reflect ideas Roosevelt was voicing earlier, or it may be a later attribution worth checking. Produced under the Federal Art Project, the poster was later included in an exhibit on American responses to Nazi book burning, which ties it to the decade's debate over censorship and persecution in Europe.
