The caption card labels the sitter simply as "Pres.," but the c1910 date falls after Theodore Roosevelt left the White House in March 1909, so the title reflects the rank he held from 1901 to 1909 rather than a current office. Roosevelt remained one of the most recognizable public figures in the country afterward, known for trust-busting, conservation, and his forceful public manner. Because the record notes that its data is unverified and comes from an old caption card, the exact date and occasion of the portrait should be treated as approximate.
