The caption on this glass negative names Evelyn Thaw, the wife of Harry K. Thaw, whose 1906 killing of architect Stanford White on the roof of Madison Square Garden in New York turned the couple into one of the most publicized pairs of the era. The Bain News Service, the wire photo agency whose files hold this negative, sold pictures of such headline figures to newspapers across the country. The record gives no date for the exposure, and the title comes from data the agency attached, so the sitter's identity and the occasion should be checked against other sources before being relied upon.
