The title on this c1897 print, AL AUKA(?), carries a question mark, and the caption card describes only sailboats, so the place name is uncertain. The picture is a photoprint copyrighted by C.E. Bolles and catalogued as No. 915, a format widely used in the late 1890s, when photographic views were reproduced in quantity for a public interested in waterfront and seaside scenes. Because the notes come from old, unverified caption data, the exact location and vessels remain open questions. Sailing craft were a common subject of such views, and the picture offers a glimpse of how boats were photographed at the turn of the century.
